We grow each other through guided discussions of the sermon passage with a focus on applying God’s Word to our personal lives. We encourage and edify one another by sharing our diverse insights, applications, and experiences with the group, sharpening one another like iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). Our Discussion Guides follow a consistent structure based on the “Hook, Book, Look, Took” model (Lawrence O. Richards, Creative Bible Teaching). This approach starts with a question intended to spark interest and engage us in the discussion topic (“Hook”). Then we examine the Scripture passage itself, refreshing or clarifying the sermon's interpretive points (“Book”). Next, we reflect on how the text applies to our lives today (“Look”). Finally, we identify concrete, practical steps to take in response to the passage (“Took”). This method is easy to repeat and adaptable to various Bible teaching contexts. One of our goals is to help equip members to effectively teach the Bible in their homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and church settings. With this missional focus, we aim to instill a practical approach to Bible teaching through our Community Group discussions. View our latest Discussion Guide below.
